Sisters of Mercy of North Carolina Foundation Announces $1,075,882 in Grants to 25 Organizations.

July 15, 2019 - Sisters of Mercy of North Carolina Foundation announces grant awards totaling $1,075,882 to 25 non-profit organizations.  Of the 25 grants, nine were in the area of education totaling $369,000; six went to health care for a total of $230,000; the remaining ten were for social services totaling $476,882. 

The organizations that received grants are located in the following nine counties:  Buncombe, Catawba, Gaston, Henderson, Jackson, Mecklenburg, Union, and Watauga Counties in North Carolina and York County in South Carolina.

The following organizations received awards this cycle.

Education

Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County, Hendersonville, NC was awarded $30,000 to support two part-time lead staff positions for teen programming.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Gaston, Gastonia, NC was awarded $39,000 in operating support contributing to program salaries and facilities costs.

Central Piedmont Community College Foundation, Charlotte, NC was awarded $65,000 in operating support for the Man Up and Summer Bridge programs.

Child Care Resources, Inc., Charlotte, NC was awarded $55,000 to provide support for personnel and operating expenses for the Ready to Read project.

Children & Family Resource Center of Henderson County, Inc., Hendersonville, NC was awarded $45,000 to support the Preschoolers Reaching Educational Potential Program, specifically, salary and benefits for the Program Coordinator.

CrossRoads Corporation for Affordable Housing & Community Development, Charlotte, NC was awarded $25,000 for program staff salaries in the Bulldogs Matter program.

Read to Succeed, Asheville, NC was awarded $25,000 to support the salary and benefits of a new part-time Volunteer Coordinator.

The Western Youth Network, Inc., Boone, NC was awarded $30,000 to provide operating support for the Youth Mentoring Program.

United Way of Asheville & Buncombe County, Inc., Asheville, NC was awarded $55,000 to provide a portion of the salaries of three site coordinators for the Middle School Success Initiative.

Health Care

Blue Ridge Mountains Health Project, Cashiers, NC was awarded $25,000 to provide partial salary support for two dental hygienists.

Florence Crittenton Services, Charlotte, NC was awarded $50,000 to provide salary support for the maternity care staff.

Metrolina Association for the Blind, Charlotte, NC was awarded $30,000 to support the Vision Rehabilitation Services staff and fall prevention services.

The Mental Health Fund, Hickory, NC was awarded $35,000 in salary support for a Peer

Support Specialist and a Qualified Professional for the Jail Project in Catawba County.

York County First Steps, Rock Hill, SC was awarded $50,000 in salary support for a nurse home visitor and related operating support.

York County Free Clinic, Rock Hill, SC was awarded $40,000 for the salary of a Nurse Practitioner.

Social Services

Charlotte Rescue Mission, Charlotte, NC was awarded $53,027 in salary and benefits support for Dove's Nest licensed substance abuse counselors.

Children's Advocacy Center of Catawba County, Inc., Conover, NC was awarded $18,855 to provide a portion of the salary and benefits of a Forensic Interviewer.

Cleveland County Community Development Corporation,  Shelby, NC was awarded $35,000 in salary support for one certified housing counselor.

Community Link, Charlotte, NC was awarded $60,000 to provide general operating support.

International House of Metrolina, Charlotte, NC was awarded $50,000 in salary and benefits support for the legal staff of the Immigration Law Clinic.

Pat's Place Child Advocacy Center, Charlotte, NC was awarded $35,000 in salary support for a Family Advocate/Forensic Interviewer.

Pisgah Legal Services, Asheville, NC was awarded $75,000 to provide general operating support.

Renaissance West Community Initiative, Charlotte, NC was awarded $50,000 to provide salary support for one Life Navigator.

Union County Crisis Assistance Ministry, Inc., Monroe, NC was awarded $25,000 to provide the salary for an Economic Mobility mentor.

Urban League of the Central Carolinas, Inc., Charlotte, NC was awarded $75,000 for operating support contributing to CareerBridge services.
